I think it is ironic that I only get time to do this kind of stuff when it's Christmas. The last few days has been like one long photoshoot what with the constant freezing temperatures (-11c last night) and the complete covering in snow. I have collected lots of content the last while, even during the last few weeks in college while i was still in Dublin and just havnt had time to publish any of it. This is why the last few days I have been back active on flickr and have been uploading some new content there and also on my youtube and vimeo. So be sure to check them out. Ben

Moore St. After Hours... from Ben Millett on Vimeo.
Viscom Photography Elective
From looking at the film Phone Booth directed by Joel Schumacher in 2002 I was interested in focusing on a place or a thing that is stationary as everything else moves around it, coming and going and changing. I chose an urban area used for retail and decided to focus on a shopping stall that is available on the street for vendors to come and markets their goods. I was interested in showing the object as constant in time, and I wanted to show how it was used and then forgotten until needed again. It is almost as if the stall is abused just for its’ use. People come and take advantage of it, displaying their products, then when finished they leave and no thought is paid to the stall itself. Throughout the project one tends to develop a sense of loneliness for the stall as it is periodically surrounded by people but never has anyone lasting with it. Throughout my images I wanted to create a need to personify the stall so as to allow the stall to portray a certain feeling. Maybe the viewer will feel sorry for the stall seeing it isolate in an ever changing world. It is somewhat a metaphor for the saying that cities are lonely places despite there being people all around, but it also shows how people have the need to transfer human traits onto non animated objects just to achieve an understanding of that object in its current situation.

On a very dull and dreary sunday morning members of BoyleCameraClub set of to Yeats' Country for a photoshoot... However, being such a miserable day there was not much to shoot as the light was crap! So here are my few shots from the day, all done using the strobist technique.
